 Committee Structure

Printable version

  • The officers of the BCMC shall be a Chair, Vice-Chair/Chair Elect, and a Secretary.
  • The chair shall serve a two-year term, and shall have been an active member (e.g. attending committee meetings; participating in discussions) of the BCMC for one year prior to taking office. The Chair shall preside at committee meetings; convene special meetings; and be a full voting member of the BCMC Committee.
  • Vice-Chair/Chair Elect, elected at the fall meeting, shall serve a two-year term and succeed the office of Chair. The Vice-Chair/Chair Elect shall assist the Chair in managing committee related business, including working with the Chair to coordinate committee representation to other VALE committees related to charges of BCMC.
  • The Secretary, appointed or volunteered by committee members, shall serve a two-year term. The Secretary shall arrange and inform the minutes-taker (members take turns to be the minutes taker, alphabetical order by last name) for each committee meeting, distribute draft minutes to members via VALE BCMC wiki, finalize approved minutes and routinely maintain the committee wiki, etc. The secretary shall also assist the Chair and the Vice-Chair/Chair Elect in arranging meeting locations, meeting room set-up and parking for attendees, etc. The secretary shall also solicit nominations for the Vice Chair/Chair Elect and convene the fall election, which includes preparation, collection and counting of ballots.
  • If the Chair resigns from the Committee, the Vice Chair/Chair Elect shall take the office in an interim capacity until the Vice Chair/Chair Elect officially become the Chair.
  • If the Vice Chair/Chair Elect resigns before his/her term is up, a special election shall be held immediately for a new Vice Chair/Chair Elect to be elected to fill the unfinished term only if the unfinished term is more than a year. The newly elected Vice Chair/Chair Elect is expected to be the Chair of the next term. If the unfinished term is less than a year, the position will remain vacant until the next regular election takes place in the fall which means two officers shall be elected at the fall election: Chair and Vice Chair/Chair Elect.
  • The secretary shall be appointed at the summer meeting every other year.
  • If the secretary resigns, a new secretary shall be appointed by the Chair after consulting with the Vice Chair/Chair Elect and other committee members.
